A tragic UTV accident near Goldfield early Saturday morning claimed the life of 20-year-old McKenna Woodbeck and left another person injured, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Authorities said the crash happened around 3:10 a.m. near the Boone River in the area of Highway 3. A John Deere Gator, carrying two occupants, veered too close to the riverbank and went over a steep drop into the river. Both individuals were ejected from the vehicle.
McKenna Woodbeck, who was riding as a passenger, was trapped beneath the UTV and pronounced dead at the scene. The 21-year-old driver sustained injuries. Investigators confirmed that neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Eagle Grove Police and Ambulance, and the Goldfield Fire Department assisted the State Patrol at the scene.

McKenna Woodbeck, the daughter of Chelsea and Travis Woodbeck, was known as a talented athlete, having played as a defensive specialist for Ballard Volleyball. She was also a beloved girlfriend to Levi Rasmussen, and her passing has left her family, friends, and community heartbroken.

Beyond athletics, McKenna was described as hardworking, compassionate, and full of life. She was also employed at Facebook, where she brought the same dedication and energy that defined her in sports and in her personal relationships.
As news of her passing spreads, tributes are pouring in from teammates, friends, and loved ones, remembering her as a bright light taken far too soon.
