The University of Massachusetts Lowell was placed on lockdown Tuesday following reports of a possible active shooter near campus housing.
According to authorities, police are searching for an Asian male, approximately 5’5”, last seen wearing a gray or white sweatshirt and black shorts. The suspect was reportedly carrying a rifle and was last spotted near Riverview Suites, a student housing complex.
University officials have issued an urgent alert, instructing students, staff, and faculty to shelter in place until further notice. Law enforcement officers are actively sweeping the area and have established a perimeter as part of the search.
Multiple police vehicles and emergency responders are on scene. No injuries have yet been confirmed, and the situation remains ongoing.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to call 911 immediately.
