Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Jefferson County as Shameka Miller, a 37-year-old woman from Arlington. Her family has been notified.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said that arrest warrants for murder have been issued for Javeon Javon Blount and Demarcus Dewayne Elam, both of whom are now in custody.
The shooting occurred on March 28, 2026, on Highway 73, east of Veolia. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Deputies have also identified Blount and Elam as persons of interest who may have information relevant to the case. At this time, they are not being identified as additional suspects, and no further charges have been filed.
The sheriff’s office thanked the Department of Public Safety, the Port Arthur Police Department, the Port Arthur Fire Marshal’s Office, the Nederland Police Department, the Beaumont Police Department, and Crimestoppers for their assistance in the investigation.
