Caleb Joseph Fry Obituary; Family and Friends Mourn the loss of 20-year old Caleb Joseph Fry who Died Untimely

It is with profound sadness that the Fry family shares the sudden passing of Caleb Joseph Fry, who left this earthly life for his eternal home on September 5, 2025, at just 20 years old. Born on December 29, 2004, Caleb grew up in Joliet, Illinois, and more recently lived in Lockport, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and a remarkable curiosity for the world.

A Childhood of Energy and Curiosity

The son of Tom and Helen (Malone) Fry, Caleb was the beloved younger brother of Joshua (Katie), Matthew, and Robbie, and the protective older brother to Ethan, Daniel, and Seth.

Known as the “middlest” of the Fry boys, Caleb thrived in the joyful chaos of his large family. From an early age, he was mischievous, adventurous, and endlessly curious—always eager to test boundaries and embrace new experiences.

Caleb attended Thomas Jefferson Grade School, Hufford Junior High, and Joliet West High School, where he forged deep and lasting friendships.

His dimpled smile, quick wit, and kind heart earned him the affection of classmates, teachers, and friends alike. He expressed his individuality through his sense of fashion, often changing outfits multiple times a day, and his ever-evolving hairstyles became a hallmark of his creativity.

A Poet’s Heart and a Mechanic’s Hands

Caleb’s imagination knew no bounds. He captured the beauty of sunsets in daily photographs and poured his thoughts into poetry and verse. At the same time, his fascination with how things worked made him a natural tinkerer and budding engineer. He loved taking apart machines, though he sometimes left the reassembly for another day.

Over the years, Caleb pursued a wide variety of hobbies. He was a skilled woodworker, fisherman, photographer, climber, Pokémon enthusiast, animal lover, and adventurer who was always chasing his next passion. His diverse interests reflected his vibrant spirit and constant search for wonder in everyday life.

A Calling in Cars

More than any other pursuit, Caleb discovered his true calling in automobiles. He worked tirelessly to build his skills at Belle Tire in Joliet, Rush Truck Centers in Carol Stream, and Marvin’s Motor City in Morris, where he gained both experience and lifelong friendships.

Recently, he fulfilled a dream by opening VC Driven Autoworks in Joliet with his friend Victor Flores, an endeavor he was excited to grow and nurture. His brothers admired his remarkable work ethic and undeniable talent, expressing deep pride in his accomplishments.

Loved by Many

Caleb leaves behind a vast circle of family and friends whose lives were enriched by his presence. He is survived by his heartbroken parents; siblings and sister-in-law; his nephew, Wilder Fry; his cherished grandmothers, Ann Malone and Judy Homan; and a wide network of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. He also leaves behind the love of his life, Gray Perez, and his “second family,” the Locastos, along with countless friends who cherished his humor, creativity, and loyalty.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Robert “Bob” Homan and Gerard “Jerry” Malone.

Honoring Caleb’s Memory

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Overman-Jones Funeral Home in Plainfield, and again on Thursday, September 11, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Grace Bible Church in Shorewood. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m., with interment to be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Caleb’s memory to The Jed Foundation, an organization dedicated to protecting emotional health and preventing suicide among young people:
