New York State Police are investigating a deadly crash that occurred Thursday morning in the Town of Fenner. The collision happened just before 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Mile Strip Road and Oxbow Road.
According to NYSP, a Chevrolet Equinox operated by Barbara R. Thurston, 82, of Oneida, was traveling westbound on East Mile Strip Road when she failed to yield at a stop sign and attempted to cross the intersection. Her vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a northbound box truck driven by Guillermo Y. Melchor Hernandez, 22, of West Winfield.
Thurston, who was the only occupant of her vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Melchor Hernandez and his passenger were uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
