The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Friday morning on State Route 43 near Indian Run Road in Sandy Township, Stark County. The crash took place at approximately 5:59 a.m. on August 29, 2025.
Authorities say 22-year-old Michael D. Weaver of Canton was driving a gray 2013 BMW 528xi northbound on State Route 43 when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road, struck a tree, and caught fire. Bystanders pulled Mr. Weaver from the burning vehicle before it became fully engulfed in flames.
Mr. Weaver was transported to Aultman Hospital by Quad EMS, where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.
The Mohawk Valley Fire Department and Quad EMS assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation as the Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to gather details regarding the circumstances leading up to the tragic incident.
