The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said officers were called at 11:49 a.m. to the area beneath the McKee Road overcrossing. Investigators believe the woman, estimated to be around 40 years old, fell from the overpass onto the busy highway below.

She was hit by an oncoming vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.

The incident forced the closure of all southbound lanes of Highway 101, with traffic diverted to Alum Rock Avenue. The shutdown caused significant delays, which were alleviated shortly after 2 p.m. when lanes reopened.

The CHP is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fall.
